If the engine seizes, then oil pressure goes away, but other failures I thi= nk will allow you to change prop pitch. It=92s looking like I won=92t be able to get a replacement blade for my Aer= ocomposites prop, which means I=92m in the market for a whole new prop. How= do I go about choosing? Which is better, Hartzell or MT? Feathering or non= -feathering? Are there any other options out there? I=92m even open to gett= ing a used prop. Lancair lists their various prop options here. Hartzell typically has a 6-8 week lead= time. Not sure about MT. The MT=92s weight is more in line with my old prop (which was 50lbs). But I= have heard reports of MT props slinging oil/grease due to seal problems. T= he Hartzell is tried and true but much heavier (and it only comes in that b= oring gray color!). Feathering vs. non-feathering =96 the standard props we use go to flat pitc= h if we lose oil pressure. But that=92s only a single type of engine failur= e. If the engine quits completely for any other reason oil pressure will bl= eed off. Once that happens moving the prop lever to low pitch won=92t have = any effect. Do I have that right? I would greatly appreciate any and all thoughts and discussion on the matte= r. Thanks, Adam Molny
