Adam,
Sorry to hear about your prop. Glad to hear that
there were no injuries.
I have no particular expertise with propellers
but here is some of what I have found using MTs.
We have MT props on both our 320 and our IV.
About 12 years ago MT tried a new blade seal design. On our 320 it slung grease.
They replaced that seal with the old style (no charge) and it’s been fine for
the last 10 years. The MT on our IV has never slung grease. It has been my
experience that the MTs will govern down to a much lower RPM than the
Hartzells. The prop on our 320 governs down to about 1000 rpm, the one on
our IV down to about 1200. This produces a very coarse pitch that, while not
fully feathered, produces a drag profile much closer to feather than the
Hartzell.
The MT comes painted white and you have a few
choices of tip color. They do tend to loose paint, especially just behind the
leading edge and at the tips. I spoke to Gerd, the owner of MT, at SnF last
summer and he suggested sanding the paint just behind the LE so as to feather it
into the nickel leading edge (which extends under the start of the paint by
about 1/4 inch). I have done this to mine and have had no further paint
problems.
Good luck on this. I hope to see your Legacy back
in the air soon.
