I certainly agree with Dan in that it makes sense to collect the trapped oil, but not because it is "bad" stuff (it's the same stuff that is in the crankcase). My point was that the bigger reason, as Don relates below, is that getting the collected oil to drain back into the engine is a potential problem and even a possible hazard. Done incorrectly, the pressure drops in the system can actually pull oil out of the sump instead of letting it drain into the sump. That, combined with the extra oil lines and fittings, can make it a bad idea. My thought is to run a hose down to an easily- reached location and put a plug in it. Then it can be occasionally drained, like every ten hours or so. I would suggest even doing that without a collector reservoir - just
let it collect in the separator itself. What's wrong with that?
