Thanks for the info.  I had no trouble loosening the nuts to remove the magneto.  In my case, I couldn't move the mag far enough forward to get it free of the engine.  It hit the air intake pipe while the aft gear was still inside the engine case.  Next time (another 5 years?), I'll try harder to find a way to get it free.

I have Plasma III electronic ignition coils mounted on the engine centerline, somewhat in front of the one magneto, and maybe that's why I had to remove the air intake pipe and you didn't?

Dennis: I did both mags without removing anything except some plug wire bundles.   It took a universal joint or two, 1/4 inch drives and a long extension but it was possible without removing the intake.
