Beta is the blade pitch angle below minim forward flight low pitch (which is Alpha).  Reverse is usually the same as beta, but adds RPM while controlling blade angle directly through the low pitch stop/ring.  As to Beta vs Reverse, every airplane is different based on prop type, speed envelope, oh shit factors, ect..  But Alpha is positive thrust, and beta is not.

Ronald, does MT make a difference between "beta" and "reverse"?

Beta in my experience is flat, zero thrust.  Reverse is something else.   In the TBM, beta provides a large percentage of the braking force that reverse does without kicking up debris.   Can you determine where beta is on the MT versus reverse thrust?  Those tests would be useful.  Also, is "beta" prohibited below 70k or reverse or both?
