HI THERE

IS YOUR BAGGAGE = DOOR POSITIVELY LOCKED?

There was a relatively recent accident with = a Lancair IV possibly caused by the baggage door.

The plane did not = have locks on the baggage door=2C instead it had a nice convenient button t= o release the
baggage door like the one on your car.
=3B  = =3B  =3B =3B GREAT. but=2C the likely cause of the death of two exp= erienced pilots is that the door came open in flight and the
=3Bair= plane cover that was stored in the baggage area was sucked out and wrapped = itself around the tail feathers.

then NO MORE CONTROL =3B = =3B =3B =3B just down.

the idea of this neat door opener ins= ide the cabin seems great. what a convenience. and

 =3B WHO WOUL= DA THUNK.

hit the button by mistake=3B or the lock system fails... T= HEN YOU DIE.

my first thought of a solution would be to put the door= opener in series with the green gear lights=2C

no light=2C no door= open=2C but what about in the pattern? well that leads to having a squat s= witch on the gear.
no squat=3B no baggage open.

My plane is simpl= e=2C one cannot take the key out of the lock when the door is unlocked. upo= n thinking about this
accident=2C i thought "wow=2C a fail proof system= was built in=2C and i was totally unaware of the thinking behind such a si= mple setup"

THE CHANGE to a button is a perfect example of the= law of unintended consequences.

or be careful of what= you wish for.
