Dico,

As you note, a hole that bleeds air from the engine= upper deck wastes a serious amount of air. Be sure there’s not an un-attached piece of scat behind your engine, and if not, plug the hole. C= ommon places to run “extra” cooling air are the gascolator, eng= ine fuel pump assembly (on the back of the engine) and alternator on the ac= cessory pad. There are likely others… but if you don’t have an “extra” piece of SCAT back there, time= to fix this.  You might consider asking the original builder what it was for…= ;given the quality construction of your airplane, he would have had a plan = for this; not an accident that it’s there.

My two cents…

Hi All,

I was inspecting my b= affling for holes and found 3 scat hoses at the aft section of the engine.&= nbsp;  1 of them goes to the gascolator, 1 goes to the vacuum pump and= one goes to no-where... just blows air around behind the engine and in front of the firewall.

This 1.5" scat hose is taking away valuable cold air that could otherw= ise be closed up and help cool my #3 cylinder which run quite hot on climb = out.

I'm wondering if there is any reason that I shouldn't remove this scat hose= and cover the hole? (since it doesn't appear to do anything).
