I agree with Rob - since I learned to fly in the LA basin, I actually feel
kinda lonely in the air when I'm flying up here in the Northwest. In my
opinion, one becomes good (or else!) flying a lot down there(I was hangared
at Torrance, a few miles south of LAX, for the first 500 or so hours that
went on my Lancair 235).

Most of the controllers are friendly and helpful, if a bit harried. Many's
the time when returning home from the North in the Lancair, I've requested
the VFR high route thru the Class-B (Hollywood Park Route - usually get 8000
ft over the city) and have been given a "descend at pilot's discretion" when
passing LAX to help me make it down to Torrance without having to fly an
extra 20 miles just to adhere to the published route.

What I really don't like to do anymore is drive in LA - now that is Really
taking your life in your hands!!
