Another possibility for the Legacy would be the turboprop version of the new
Williams jet that's part of the NASA GAP program. It's still a few years
away, but it's very light weight and is designed to replace higher
horsepower pistons at a comparable price. The jet version of this engine
has 700 lbs of thrust and weighs less than a hundred pounds. Add a gear
reduction unit and the weight will go up some and the horsepower yield will
probably be a bit lower but both of these figures will be far better than a
piston counterpart. Plus you'd have a new vs. used/surplus engine. If your
timeframe fits Williams', this could be an awesome engine for a Legacy or a
IV/IV-P.
