Yes Dave I can elaborate a little.  Probably will have more to say later after I get my head out of ------ pressurization, avionics and other issues.

Major problem and why the engine was making aluminum is that the cam shaft apparently should not have been used. It had been repaired with chrome on the journals and besides being badly pitted some of the chrome must have been peeling off and gouging the aluminum in the case where the camshaft rides.  This item was sent out  to a repair shop and was red tagged as not restorable due to the chrome treatment and both key ways being too beat up.

I am told that chrome treatment of these camshafts is not acceptable.

None of this information comes from my experience or knowledge base all has been passed on to me.

John

As it turns out, the issue must have been oil drifting around the system during overhaul and seeping out when static and when running at low power for a short while.  Today the engine appeared to be almost bone dry after two flights and the belly of the airplane appears to be dry and clean also. I couldn't say that for the engine before I removed it for overhaul.
