Looks like he's made it to Chile.  Awesome!

Anyone know if he is planning to go over the South Pole, or will he simply fly direct NZCH?  The new ForeFlight update has a neat spherical earth view, perfect to visualize this wild adventure.  If I entered the trip correctly, it lists the total distance as 20,356 nm (23425 sm), slightly less than the Earth's circumference.  Does he need to fly a certain total distance or go within a range from the poles to qualify?

Good luck Bill!

Dennis,

Bill arrived in Bangor, ME yesterday afternoon for the start of his circum-polar flight record attempt. He's planning on leaving Bangor, ME this morning (1500Z). Planned route of flight is: Bangor , ME - Recife, Brazil - Punta Arenas, Chile - Christchurch, New Zealand - Honolulu, HI - Fairbanks, AK - Bangor, ME.

You should be able to watch his progress at https://go.spidertracks.com/fleetpro/public/zqpilot, or at www.flightaware.com. For the latter you’ll need his tail number, N6ZQ.

Our prayers are with him.

Bob

Does anyone know if its just a coincidence that Bill just landed in Bangor, Maine which is the starting point for his around the world record attempt which was going to occur in March or October?   Just wondering if he is going for it now so I can watch in awe on spider tracks.   Anybody know the official plan?
