Hi everyone,
This is just going to be a quick note to cover a couple items...
First, I'd like to thank all of you out there who have sent in your
donations, they're really appreciated. I promise to put them to good work
making sure that the LML stays the high quality online publication you've
come to expect.
Second, to simplify the contribution process for those of you out there who
would prefer to use a credit card, I'm setting up a Visa/MC account and
should be able to process those cards in a few weeks. This is primarily to
eliminate the grief of changing foreign currencies or incurring extra
expenses to secure international money orders for our foreign subscribers.
So, please hang in there for a little while and I'll let you know when that
system is in place.
Finally, in case you're not a weather junkie or you've been using your
clicker to shut off the weather portion of the news lately, hurricane
Georges may well be on its way to my neck of the woods. The present
hurricane watches terminate about 30 miles south of here, but I suspect
they may be expanded in the next 24 hours to include the county both I and
the LML listserver reside in. If Georges decides to take a path up the
center of Florida or worse, skirt the Florida gulf coast, it will mean that
I'm going to be in the thick of it for a day or two. I suspect that should
that happen, we'll likely see some power outages and communications
interruptions and so the LML may well be offline until things get sorted
out. I've got everything backed up on my end should the worst happen and
intend to get everything back up and running as soon as possible after the
storm has passed. I spoke to the listserver administrator and learned that
they're in the middle of their disaster preparedness program and he assured
me that even if their building is blown down he will have the capability of
getting everything back up and running on a new system within 36 hours.
(I'll believe that when I see it!) So, if things get quiet on the LML
front for a day or two, please don't despair or go into withdrawal, it just
means that we're learning that you really can't mess with Mother Nature.
Everything will be back to normal in short order.
