The usual reason given to go 28 volts is to save weight in the wiring. On the
size planes we build this savings is negligible. The reason I decided to go
with
28v (other than the fact that my engine was already 28v) was that it
effectively
doubles the electrical capacity of your alternator. My alternator's output
of 70
amps at 28v is the equivalent of a 140 amps at 14v. I need the amperage,
with a
L-IVP you will also.
The major drawback is that you won't be able to use all the nifty auto
accessories on the market.
