If you choose to taper, you will probably have to add a little width later in the area where the canopy latch mounts (if you choose to install the optional latch system). I don't really understand the longeron question. After they have been bonded to the fuselage, you cover them with a 2 BID strip that wraps from the outside surface, over the top, and onto the inside surface of the fuselage (full length of the longeron).
