I usually tell people one of two things -
1.  For engine stuff, I usually say it is for an airboat - they usually use
Lycoming engines, and most people can relate to it

2.  I also have used "unmanned aviation drone"... nobody inside it to get
killed...  

I have never had anyone question either reason, and have always gotten the
part/service I need.  If the person takes an interest, I always tell them
the truth and let them decide.
