Sorry to hear that Walt's door is not the quality that we would all
expect.
The fast build door that we received has one minor discrepancy on it.
The mount for the upper end of the strut (ball-stud) on the door
frame is located about 1" from where it should be. We are moving it
so there is no interference with the cover for the pump. It is
obvious that the documentation from Redmond to the Philippines needs
to be more specific.
All the latches line up and open readily to clear the door frame when
opening.
The small pan head uncoated steel 4/40 machine screws that hold on
the access covers did have a minor surface rust on them. Looks like
most unplated steel that has seen any trace of moisture. We have lots
of screws left from not having to do the "slow build door".
We accepted the fact that this is run 1 and we are the "Beta" test.
We are tickled that we don't have to build one.
We are installing the door now and will post how it goes. Mark at
Lancair has been great on keeping us going. He is recommending that
we bolt on the top, install the door to the top half of the fuselage
and let it cure. Then remove the top half and install the fan,
overhead console, lights, etc. while it is off the plane. Keeps us
from working overhead. Then install the top half of the fuselage.
Getting there.
