With the tank empty the probe should put out about a 2000 hz signal. As the tank fills, the frequency drops to about 1000 hz at full. The bad probe would only work intermittently when full voltage was applied instantly. If the voltage built up slowly, the probe would not work. An L3 design expect diagnosed my problem with the probe. A new probe was shipped to me, free of charge. Checking with a Motorola next door tech, he has seen a similar problem with some computer chips.
