Rob, Ed,

I´v a LNC2  320 with IO-320, slow build kit, small elevator, no wing extensions, MT 3-blade prop.

Following remarks are my personal feeling/experience! It might be different with other kit configuration:

1.       I limited my flaps to -5° because:

-          a transit from 0° to negative flap position will have significant influence to the elevator trim

-          I did some performance tests many years ago and found -7° will not show higher cruise speed than -5°

-          you need more clearance gap between upper wing skin an flap

2.       I limited my flaps down position to +35° because:

-          More down degrees will not produce higher lift but dramatically more drag

-          More than 35° will it more difficult to have a nice flair behavior

-          More than 35° will produce higher loads to the flaps

You see, I did not  use the manual recommended parameters

Hope this remarks are usefull for you.

Best regards

Betreff: L320 flap setting

I have the exact concerns reported by Rob Stevens in Australia.  Since the manual is vague on cruise flap settings, can some experienced L320-360 fliers help us with what is the best cruise settings?  Is it -7deg. , -10deg., or somewhere else.  Since construction variances can create different “faired-in positions”, is there an angle which can be measured from the top or bottom wing surface?  Can anyone explain the aerodynamic reasons for reflexed flaps?  Rob and I need help!
