Angier,

Remove the bottom plugs and crank the engine with the throttle wide open and the fuel at cutoff until the oil pressure gauge starts to twitch. This will bleed the air out of the oil lines and filter. Charge the battery while you reinstall the plugs. Check the oil level and add as needed. Chock the mains and start the engine. Grin profusely.

In preparation for first engine start (Lycoming IO360), I'll be draining preservation oil and replacing with mineral oil and the question is how much to put in...
If I add to the 6qt level on the dipstick, the oil lines plus the cooler and Air Wolf filter will be empty and should stay that way theoretically, until the Vern-a-therm valve opens at 180deg. So initially, is 6qts too much, just right? And in this day and age, is straight mineral oil still the way to go?
The engine was run for 1hr at the Lycoming factory when new.
