If you get the Champion fine wire = gap gauge, you will see that platinum plugs gap at .015" and iridiums = gap at .024". Why? I don't know for sure but I have to guess that there = must be less resistance in the iridium. The larger gap also should = lighting the fire better. The post that sticks out to gap to the center = post has a smaller diameter on the iridium plugs.
