Folks,
I am pondering paint options for my lnc2. I would be grateful for any pointers from those of you who have been there. Below I have listed what I am thinking along with some questions. I want to achieve professional results on a reasonable budget
I will do the work myself
I will disassemble the plane before paint
I plan to use polyurethane for durability and uv protection - is this the optimum choice for weight and finish quality?
I will erect a force air filtered booth in my garage
I will use an enclosed breathing apparatus
I will use a HVLP system. Considering the Fuji mini mite 3 - has anyone any experience/recommendation on this?
I already have epoxy primer on the airframe which has yet to be sanded using 220 grit - Primer is WLS Coatings
I will degrease before sanding
I will paint at 70 degrees fahrenheit or better in low humidity
I want to paint a bright metallic silver throughout but I am concerned this will "shield" my internal nav/comm/gps antennae - any recommendations?
I found the folks at Products Techniques Inc (PTI) to be very helpful regarding the technical details of their paint products. Because of their excellent customer support I am very much inclined to go with them. They will mix whatever paint code I would like! - has anybody had any experience with their products good or bad? They are sold through aircraftspruce btw
What is the best material/method to deal with pin holes? Fortunately I have very few but never the less I need to take care of them
I am hoping to get away with 2 coats only.
I will use an additive by PTI to inhibit orange peel
I am hoping i can paint the wings in two stages top and bottom separately and feather the leading edge on the underside. The PTI paint should only be sanded within 36 hours of shooting otherwise it is too hard according to the manufacturer
Again, any guidance from you folks would be appreciated
Thanks
Tom
