STD 160, washer, 1/4 lock, internal teeth to be used with STD-8 flat washer and the required bolt. SDT-160 aproximates MS35333(lock washer, carbon steel, cadmium plated). MS35338 (lock washer, carbon steel, cadmium plated) is the split ring washer. It has it's own uses elswhere in the engine. Properly installed and checked for torque each 100 hours, the Lycoming engine will not fall apart. Locktite is optional tho not required. Between 1994 and 1997 I overhauled to new specs. five Lycoming 0-320H2AD engines for our fleet of Cessna 172N's. Most have reached and exceeded TBO without oil leaks or other failures. I did re-ring one engine at 300 hours because the rings would not seat into the chrome barrels. It now burns no excessive oil I'm aware of. It pains me to hear you speak so poorly of the average joe A&P who must be an attorney and a secretary as well as a mechanic, all for $15.00 per hour in general aviation. Get a grip and safety all your bolts!
