Re: Prop for Lancair IV
I don't have a prop but I have a bit of advice.. Don't fly your plane
without an engine teardown and magnaflux check for a cracked crank. The
chances are very good that your crank is cracked. The factory line is
absolute on this. Any prop damage and it's teardown time.
I had a gear failure and landed with the engine completely stopped and just
the pressure on the two blades that contacted the runway was enough to crack
the crank. There was no evident damage to the crank and it dialed out
perfect. But the teardown and magnaflux revealed a serious crack that would
have caused the prop to depart the plane in the next hour to maybe 10 hours.
