Hi Bob & Larry,
Most of the airports are below minimums north of Boston today,so I had yet
another opportunity to nurture anal retentiveness by tweeking flap adjustments.
My initial goal was to try to achieve the same flap travel left and right, over
35 degrees. When I first bolted everything together, I had 2.5 degrees more
travel for the right flap than the left. All of the measurements have been
taken using my digital smart level which only has one place right of the
decimal. I have no idea how much 'slop +/-' this tool actually has since I have
nothing with which to make a comparison. But it looks and smells reasonably
accurate and I've been using it since day one so I get to live with the
results.
In any event, I have now achieved 33.7 degrees left and 35.0 right for a
variance of 1.30 degrees. All the members of local EAA CH106 suggest I should
shoot myself if I can't get rid of the remaining 1.3 degrees.(just kidding!)
Now, with the plane level side to side/ front to back, readings taken from the
same location on each top flap skin differ by +/-.80 degrees and readings taken
at the same location on the bottom skins vary by +/- 2.40 degrees.
I think I'll now move on to the next character building project and just save
my flap notes for the future!
