I heard from a couple of sources that Cirrus told TCM that they would not accept any more engines with the ISKRA starter installed. This was a couple of years ago when my starter adapter started slipping on the trip to Alaska.
About 8 hours before it failed, we had installed a SkyTec starter.
I replaced the adapter in Olympia, WA wi/ a refurb unit. As soon as I could find one of the old model starters (Anchorage), I replaced the SkyTec.

Many thanks for all the suggestions. I have spoken to almost everyone including Niagara. I do have a replacement starter on the way and the story of what is happening with Iskra and starter adapters is indeed long and complicated. But it seems unanimous to all (Except TCM) that the Iskra is bad news and should be removed from service. I did not heed the notices from the group regarding the Iskra and I may have more damage than just the starter so anyone else with the Iskra should research or simply replace it before it causes problems. Why Continental continues to let them remain on engines that may cause damage to starter adapters seems an unhealthy business practice. So, here is my plan based on all the discussions and shop input:
1) Reverting to the old heavier 24v TCM Energizer starter which has almost zero complaints and seems endorsed by all the shops as is the 24v Prestolite. Neither are geared. 2) Changing oil from A/S 100WPLUS to 100W or Exxon 20w50 (suggested by Niagara). 3) Sending the Iskra to the metal pile at the landfill. 4) Planning on sending the starter adapter later to Niagara for check once I've got a couple weeks of downtime planned recognizing the engine must be moved to remove the starter adapter.
If anyone has a core or unused TCM energizer 24v starter p/n 646275 please contact me offline and I'll be happy to buy it as a core, spare or for the other Legacy in my hangar.

I think I've just experienced the iskra failure, slippage recently during starts and now failure to turn over the io550 this morning. Can someone point me to the fix assuming I need a starter and possibly adapter too?
