Following up on this thread.  Youtube video linked here.    I performed a couple of inflight LOP mag check per Walter's comment on my last trip Dallas to Calgary.   Switching left and right caused the EGTS to rise nicely across the board and no misfiring occurred. I was pleasantly surprised.   I did take a video of the symptoms, perhaps someone could provide further thoughts on why the EGTS bounce around.  Avidyne MFD, LOP operations, IO-550N Legacy 500 hours now, sometimes the #1 and #5 go completely offscale (still bouncing) rendering the leaning process tough to accomplish.  They settle down after some time in flight but this bouncing continues 100% of time.  TIA, Paul, Calgary.

I'm going to bet the mags need overhauling.  There is no better ignition test than a high power, inflight, LOP mag check.  None.

470 hours SNEW on mags and plugs.  I did get #5 & #1 going offscale last trip but that is normally corrected by tightening the connectors on that side of the engine.  The EGT wires use a friction connector.  So, the inflight mag check is the best initial diagnostic?  Thanks for the idea,
