Ron,
You are right on all counts. I use my MVP-50 exactly like you do, and continue to lean until the richest (last to peak) is at least 50 degrees lean of peak (you can see this on the MVP as well). With a well-balanced engine, the difference should be less than 50 degrees between richest an leanest cylinder--typically 20-30 degrees. If the difference is greater, consider looking at GAMI tuned injectors, or swapping your existing injectors around (there are some manufacturing differences).

In any case, I can typically get my engine to 120 degrees LOP on the LEANEST cylinder, giving me 90-100 degrees LOP on the richest cylinder. At this lean setting and 28-29" MP, I will occasionally get an "after fire" in the exhaust caused by the mixture lighting off after it's exiting the cylinder rather than during combustion... Not good, and it upsets the wife.  So I just push the mixture in just a crack and it settles down nicely. At 28-29" MP and 2300 RPM, I look for a fuel burn of 14 GPH, +/- 0.2.

Hope this helps.

Bob

Hello guys

I was playing with the MVP50, and I was trying to use the lean function of this unit. But it starts to confuse me, as it seems it shows the LOP number on the first cylinder that got lean ?!

I might be seeing this wrong but on the MVP50 after leaning it shows the first and last cylinder that peaked (upper right corner), the first cylinder shows for example 50 degrees LOP and the last only 20 degrees LOP, but the engine monitor shows the first cylinder as the main temp LOP ! (big numbers)

Now I might be wrong but I was taught to use the richest (last) cylinder to lean on........any suggestions?

Thanks -- Ronald (>73 hours and counting)
