Duane:
Jeppesen has downloadable navigation subscriptions for Chelton. The
one I use is for the whole US, ~$500 per year. It uses an SM card which
you can still buy over the internet, your home computer will have to have an SM
card slot for the 28 day updates. The terrain database requires the units
to be sent in. Cobham sent me the following information as regards my
inquiry about the terrain database:
Unfortunately, updating Terrain databases with the IDU-I is a bit difficult.
This is because the terrain database is typically 250-300MB in size and the
largest SmartMedia card is 128MB. Due to the self-extraction program that we
use, it is difficult for us to break the terrain database into smaller parts
that can fit on a card. In most cases, the Terrain database is updated by
sending the unit(s) back to the factory and the memory is removed from the unit
and updated through a separate process.
While the 2007 Terrain does contain additional databases that make the
terrain more accurate, the 2004 Terrain is still valid and is accurate enough to
meet TAWS requirements.
Hope this helps.

Does anyone
know how to get Chelton Updates? I've been looking and just discovered that
it appears the terrain database is not available anywhere. I haven't been
able to download a maps database either. Any advice from those who are flying
Cheltons? Thanks. duane ES sn 39 67 hrs. and
