A brief
history of my IO-550n which was built by Performance. After 240 hours the crank gear which actuates spinning the crankshaft from the
starter sheared. There are 6 bolts and a spline which must fail for this to happen. The prevailing theory is over torquing of the bolts. Lucky
this was not an inflight catastrophic failure and after having the engine rebuilt at Barrett Precision Engines I am in the process of putting
the engine back on the plane. My fuel pump was rebuilt and I am having trouble rerouting the hoses to the fuel pump without interfering
with the mixture control. My pictures before disassembly have not been helpful. Specifically the large fuel line from the
gascolator to the elbow fitting on the left side of the fuel pump runs into the mixture control. This was never an issue in the original
assembly and I was wondering if someone had a picture or some insight into what might have changed. I an not sure if the rebuilt
fuel pump is exactly the same as the original and I am tracking this down as well. Peter
