Ceiling permitting, use the higher and faster 2,300'MSL altitude. There
will be much less traffic traffic there plus the 90 knots at the lower
altitude may be a problem for good visibility over the nose and oil temps
if you get to orbit Rice Lake several times. Aircraft are cleared by "on
ground" controllers past Fisk with specific arrival instructions to the
airport. This approach requires constant traffic search so heads up. For
a clearance past Fisk, the controllers will want the gear down so make sure
the required speeds vs gear speeds, and flap configuration will work for
you. I like a little bit of flaps prior to Fisk which helps keep the nose
down for better visibility. Expect to be assigned runway 27 although the
first year I flew there in my Lancair I requested 36 and got it.
My advice is to plan your arrival for first thing in the morning when the
airshow opens for inbound traffic. As I recall this has been 7:30 am in
past years.
