Hi Rick,

Having flown this route numerous times in a Mustang II (Bushby homebuilt)
and since they have added the 'upper' alt, it has been much easier.  (A
Mustang II will nearly fall out of the air >80Kt)  Regardless what you
hear on the frequency, I would maintain YOUR designated SAFE flying speed
at the upper level.  Many times they will turn you South to enter the
18-36 pattern while the spam-cans continue for 9-27 since the homebuilt
parking is nearer 18-36 anyway.  You may consider requesting 18-36 if you
arrive during a 'slack' time where two-way comm is feasible.  If you are
forced to enter the trail for 9-27, just pick out an airplane in front
who is flying as fast as you need to and follow him.. if you have to
pass, just do it safely (they will tell you NOT to pass but they do not
press charges if you do it safely - this info is from the horses mouth -
Bill Casey a local Evv controller who has helped run the tower for years)
We got caught behind a Cub and that's NO place for a Lancair.  Remember,
do what you must to prevent being involved in an accident which allows
you to do nearly everything else... plus nearly any afct that you must
cut in front of will be able to land behind you at his much slower
landing speed while you expitite on down the runway to turn off.  And
PLEASE remember to move on down the runway and turn off as soon as
possible since there may be a king-air eating your tail.  This is the
first year that IFR afct will have to cancel and join in trail (if the
ceiling is high enough) so keep an eye for them too.
As you will hear, "Be safe, and Welcome to Oshkosh!!"

Earl
