Welcome to the wonderful world of freight gouging! I've lost track of the
number of price increases UPS, Fedex, Airborne, and the rest have imposed in
the last few years.
Motor freight is worse -- between December, '96 and March of this year the
freight bill for shipping the two ES crates more than doubled.
Wanna know what works out to be a real bargain nowadays? Yup, the good ole
U.S. Post Office. Doesn't help with the hazmat stuff, but they're generally
much cheaper than the other parcel services now. I haven't checked it out
in any systematic way, but I also think Priority Mail is a waste of money.
It looks marvelous -- all that nice red, white, and blue stuff -- but my
hunch is that it doesn't get there any faster.
As for Jeffco stuff, they're happy to sell direct, so you folks in
California could order straight from them (in San Diego). Also, as I've
brought up before, the Jeffco 3176 has about a 30 min pot life, like the
3156, and is not categorized as hazmat. The 3176 was recommended to me at
one time by Lancair, then not recommended (odd and confusing story), but the
Jeffco chemists I've spoken to can't imagine why anyone would want to use
the 3102, since the 3176 has a better working time and cures to a less
brittle product with as good or better strength spec's.
