The above is a true statement but with the ELT antannae oriented
vertically, satelllight receivers will receive the weakest ELT signal and
search aircraft the strongest. With whom do you put the most faith to
report your are down?

In Canada all aircraft are required to monitor 121.5 so a vertically
oriented antannae would offer the best signal strength to an aircraft
complying with the law.  But, here in the USA and most other parts of the
world,  there is no requirement to monitor 121.5.  My ELT antannae is
mounted horizontally for maximum satellight reception!
