The only time I use them is on long flights into the sun altho my wife uses them a lot more than I do. (same when we drive) One thing to consider is head room. When my gear folded on takeoff, the plane pulled 6+ G's during ground impact. The inertia reel on my shoulder harness kept my head from hitting the windshield but it didnt prevent my head from hitting the little red adjustment screw that protrudes from the bottom of the visor. Cost me 6 stitches. (no more little red screw!!!) If you always fly/drive with sunglasses, you may not need them but since this is one of the lowest $$$ options you can buy for a Lancair, why not???
