Since nobody specified a minimum altitude, you can go to YouTube video titled, "Motion-X GPS Flying on the iPhone 3G" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhtZaHa4SAU&feature=related) to see an ultra-lite flying with the Motion-X GPS app. According to this, the iPhone works in the air. Now will it work at 10k MSL? Who knows?

It would be useful to hear of your experience and comparison of various service providers, for both voice and internet access. I was thinking of switching to the iPhone anyway since my current Verizon contract is about to expire but now I'm not so sure.
