I hesitate to put this out there with so
many electronics experts in the group- I'm strictly a trial-and-error
amateur. Here's a link to the March 1995 Hints for Homebuilders http://www.oshkosh365.org/saarchive/eaa_articles/1995_03_18.pdf
. You might have to be a member to view it- if so, let me know and I'll try
to post the schematic. The design was reviewed by Bob Nuckolls and it does
work although I have not yet installed it in a flying aircraft.
There is a drawback- the display
LED's are individually driven and there's no synchronization so the
transition mode can look like a Christmas tree gone berserk. It does
require "Up" and "Down" displays although they might be combined to
save space by using bicolor LED's. Having the "gear up" senders actuated by the
gear doors would indicate that the doors were properly closed and
might explain some of those noises that people have reported. The constant
illumination might be an issue at night but there might be a way to work around
that. It's a starting point if anyone wants to mess around with the
idea.
These ARE experimental airplanes-
that's why I like them. The FAA took all the fun out of the other kind.
