Dear subscribers,
I am putting the engine back together and I came across the
AC compressor. The whole unit seemed to run a little rough.
I took it apart and found that the bearing for the pulley to
adjust the belt tension and the bearing that allows the pulley to spin freely
when the AC coupling is not engaged were completely dry.
These were regular sealed life time lubricated bearings from
SKF. This shows me that most likely there was excessive heat that made grease
run out of the bearing.
The AC compressor sits outside the baffling and gets heat
from tube that connects the two exhausts. I wonder if I need to install a heat
shield or direct some air outside the baffling to cool the AC compressor.
Thanks for your help
