The last set of main tires I used were Goodyear
Custom III's. You could see where they just barely touched up in the wheel
well. A small amount of rubber was left from the spinning wheel. I
started trying to remember to brake the tires before retract but then again it's
about all I can do to remember to raise the gear.
The last set of Goodyear Custom III's got right at
300 landings. The previous set before that one did not do as well due to
poor alignment. After realignment they are now wearing evenly. My
landings are probably a little faster than the average so my wear might be a
little more. I think that comes out to somewhere around $1.40 a landing
with tubes.
I think it is a very good idea to use the "airstop"
tubes also. I will continue using Goodyear Custom III's.

Bill,
I changed mine from the McCreary to Goodyear
Custom III's and to be safe did a retraction test and everything fit well with
satisfactory clearance, too (in case the spinning tire grows with centrifugal
force). By the way the Goodyears (more expensive) last considerably
longer and makes the actual cost per landing significantly lower.

AM Subject: [LML] L-IV
Tires
Has anyone changed the tires on a L-IV from the original
(Condor/McCreary) without having to enlarge the openings in the
fuselage? If so, what brand and size. Thanks, Bill
