Re: [LML] L-IV down in AZ (N144L)
"Has there been any news regarding the Oregon LIV that crashed in
Arizona last week?"
Not much. We now know the other occupant was
Daylon Harrington, also a pilot but I didn't know him and don't know his
background. While at the hangar yesterday someone mentioned that Daylon (I
think he was 25) was a flight instructor working out of Twin Oaks, a small
airport just south of HIO. He and Scott were friends and it appears he was
just riding along.
According to the owner of the shop where Scott
worked the impact appears to have been extremely violent. People he talked
to said the wreakage was spread out a couple hundred feet and there were no
large pieces. It sounds a lot like the IV-P turbine that went down in
Portland, OR two years ago. Prescott, the closest airport to the crash
site, was reporting light rain and OVC at the time. According to a friend
there was quite a bit of activity in the area showing on doppler
radar. Everyone has a theory or two, including me, but I guess we'll have
to wait for the NTSB prelim for more details.
