The tape did not yellow. I could not detect a speed difference. I then took off the tape and have flown for the last 8 years, in all kinds of weather, without the tape. I can see no marks at all on the leading edges. You might want to look more closely at the type of paint you are using. I recently purchased some "fiberglass" tape from ACS. I used it on the flap where the flap was rubbing on the wing. I didn't lake the tape because it was a brown color. The sun apparently bleaches this type of tape white (or clear) instead of yellow.
