Engine Out Practice in my Lancair IVP, full feathering prop (Aug 2008 ListServ):

There are many other posts related tot his Thread in Aug 2008 that should also be read.

Addendum: the equivalent glide performance is obtained with flat pitch 10.5" MAP 120 KIAS engine running, without seeing the prop stopped.

In my L-IVP, I practise the same engine out pattern as mentioned by Dan Ballin yesterday except that I am more comfortable using 1000 RPM rather than engine idle. To me getting the prop back early on is the secret.  I use 3500' and 1500' and fly a slightly wider pattern. If I'm high, I vary the gear and flaps.  Works pretty good. (remember to get the prop back up when established on final).

Also, remember what "whats his name" said about Carnegie Hall - Practice, Practice, Practice
