In my L-IVP, I practise the same engine out pattern as mentioned by Dan Ballin yesterday except that I am more comfortable using 1000 RPM rather than engine idle. To me getting the prop back early on is the secret. I use 3500' and 1500' and fly a slightly wider pattern. If I'm high, I vary the gear and flaps. Works pretty good. (remember to get the prop back up when established on final).
