I'd like to thank everyone who wrote me off-list
about Performance Engines. I've gotten 22 emails with stories similar to mine,
some much worse. Stuart has called me, but as has been pointed out, he has no
real leverage with Ron. All he can do is pass on the messages.
Some of the messages I've received said that they
got a response from Ron only after legal action was taken, several
others were contemplating legal action and searching for a California
attorney. I guess that I'll need to put myself into the second category. It is
my understanding that ECI, the cylinder manufacturer, has taken legal action
against Performance for nonpayment.
There have been two on-list responses that have
gotten good customer service from Ron. That's what's really hard for me to
figure out. Why does Ron treat so many of us with such contempt and others get
good service? In my case, I paid the asking price for the engine, wire
transferred the money when asked to, have made no demands to Ron, have never
been in a hurry and the only telephone conversation that I've ever had with
him was cordial and businesslike. I would have considered myself a "good"
customer. I can't seem to grasp the logic that would cause a businessman to
turn a good customer into a highly dissatisfied one when a simple phone call
with an explanation has been my "demand".
Performance Engines used to have a reputation as one of the best
engine shops in the country. It is unfurtunate that Ron is allowing this
hard-earned reputation to move in the opposite direction.
