The purpose of this mailing list is not to attack people or ideas and the point of having a moderator is to weed out posts that don't fit the mailing list's guidelines.   For example, the moderator should show a little tough love and toss postings that:

1) Make inflammatory statements or state claims without providing some verifiable reference
2) attack a person or a person's credibility or work
3) contain material generally not pertaining to the goal of the mailing list
4) Are of such adversarial tone that further discussion would be inhibited or unproductive
5) Criticize an idea without providing thoughtful alternatives
6) Are obviously written in haste and should be returned so the author can have a second chance to improve the post

Apologies must be forthcoming when a mistake is made.  I apologize in advance if there is already a significant filtering of postings and the recent ones are accidental.  But a moderator can enlist people to help moderate using guidelines.  Larger lists do that all the time to keep the flow going while people are busy.   Moderator(s) can save hundreds of people from wasting time on bad postings.  The recent bashing of people on this list simply keeps good people from participating and allows a few bullies to rule the subject matter.   Can we clean it up and stick to finding solutions and encouraging participation and the spreading of useful knowledge?
