I have 2 Golden Retrievers.  I thought both would hate the mutt muffs but they love them.  I keep asking when the company will come out with a pair with speakers in them so I can talk to the dogs in flight.  Only one can ride with me at a time.

I think they should be mandatory for any dog in a small plane.  Both of our dogs travel better than most passengers - either looking out the window or sleeping the whole time.

Fortunately, there is a solution.  We tested it, and it works!  Mutt Muffs for dogs. 
 
We thought our Welsh Corgi would object vehemently to the application of the hearing protectors, but when put on his “headset” after the engine started, he sat back and enjoyed the ride as demonstrated by the pictures at the vendor’s web site:
