Valin,

I am aware of a couple of midairs with birds at night-- one a fatal. Midairs with airplanes at night involving military aircraft that I have worked were aircraft flying formation at night. Something the average GA guys does not do. I am not aware of the military midairs at night involving other operations. I do agree that having a landing light on near the airport environment cuts the risk of a midair.

I don't recall any nighttime midair accidents.

Jeff, as I remember the folk lore, the USAF adopted a policy of turning
landing lights on any time below 10,000 ft, day and night, and saw a
significant reduction in mid air collisions with airplanes and birds
during the day and at night...
