Subject: [LML] Legacy Wing Tip = Landing=20 Lights

Hey LML=20 gang,

I=92d really=20 like to have our Legacy=92s landing lights in the wing, rather than = just mounted=20 on the landing gear, for the significant collision avoidance = mitigation it=20 provides =96 according to USAF studies.  The easiest place to put = them is=20 in the Legacy=92s stub wing section because the shape there is so = simple and=20 there=92s plenty of space.  The problem I have with that location = is that=20 it will be very difficult to do it so cleanly that it doesn=92t trip = turbulent=20 flow very early along the chord of this laminar flow wing -- with = significant=20 drag increase...

So, I=92d=20 really like to get our landing lights in the wing tips.  I=92ve = finally=20 found some nice, low profile HID lights that are small enough to fit = in the=20 Legacy=92s wing tips.  The biggest challenge is the = thermo-forming of the=20 clear acrylic lens with the more complex shape of the wing=20 tips=85

I = really=20 don=92t wan=92t to add yet another mod development to our Legacy = project. =20 Has anyone else already done this for landing lights in the Legacy=92s = wing=20 tips?  Does anyone know of a shop with reasonable prices for = forming=20 acrylic like this?

Thanks,
