Just a quick report on our progress: We loaded a new version
of software in the Cheltons, Version 6.0B-8, and that seemed to solve the
problem. We initially had both the FreeFlight and Garmin 430 WAAS
antennas under the glare shield and were having problems with reception on the
FreeFlight. We moved the FreeFlight Comant antenna to the right (glass) wing
tip (we had to get a new un-spliced length of coax) and it seems to work great
out there. Some of the comments on LML regarding the WAAS antennas needing
a better “360 degree view” seemed to be an issue – apparently,
when located in the glass wing tip it “sees” a bit better than
under the glare shield where it was probably partially blocked by the canopy
frame and sometimes by other parts of the carbon fuselage depending on
orientation to the satellites. The Garmin GPS, on the other hand, doesn’t
seem to be as sensitive and has been working fine. All is well except we
are having some problems with the Pinpoint AHRS showing correct attitude,
especially bank indication. We are re-calibrating hoping that will solve
the problem …
