Hal,

You didn=E2=80=99t say what company you had cont= acted, but if=20 you haven=E2=80=99t, you should talk to SkySmith.=

He can certainly tell you what would be required= to=20 get you insured in the Legacy if it is=20 possible.

If it is not possible, he can tell you that as=20 well.

Subject: [LML] Legacy=20 insurance

Evening=20 All,

I'm not sure how wide the ap= peal=20 for the question might be, but I'm certain that for various reasons, the=20 answers to these questions could become general interest at some=20 point.

I=E2=80=99ve recently signed= the purchase=20 agreement for a Legacy kit, and have been looking at the future insurabili= ty=20 for the day when the baby will fly under its own power=E2=80=94a year or t= wo down the=20 road, I expect. So far I=E2=80=99ve spoken with one company that represent= s four=20 underwriters.  They=E2=80=99ve been vey friendly and helpful, but the= bottom line=20 is that two of the underwriters won=E2=80=99t quote any Legacy and the oth= er two would=20 decline to quote =E2=80=9Cme=E2=80=9D in a Legacy.

I=E2=80=99m partially to bla= me for this,=20 of course, since I had a reportable accident this year in my certified bir= d=20 that resulted in the total loss of the aircraft, and very nearly myself.&n= bsp;=20 It was actually this accident, and the hours of parsing my logbooks for th= e=20 FAA, NTSB and the insurance company reports (while lying in a hospital=20 bed)  that highlighted my normal mission profile and led me to the Le= gacy=20 as more closely aligned with the way I was actually using my=20 aircraft.

So, here=E2=80=99s the quest= ion(s)=E2=80=A6 =20 I expected to pay more following the accident, I didn=E2=80=99t expect the= =20 underwriters to decline to even quote me.  Is there a time, an indust= ry=20 formalized period, where one is blacklisted following a claim, and if so,=20= how=20 long does that last?  Do you know of other companies and underwriters= =20 that, while taking a claims history in to account, might not be as shy abo= ut=20 providing a quote?

Regards,<= /o:p>

Hal
