All,
I am currently working on my left wing, and will be putting fuel all the way
to the tip (BL-171) rib, utilizing the area available in the winglet for
pitot installation. I have decided to run a 1" 6061 thin wall tube just aft
of the leading edge for my electrical conduit. I have the old fast build
kit. It occurred to me that rather than seal off the whole leading edge area
with a small additional spar (like the new "Super Fast Build Kit"), I could
just leave the tube as is. The ribs came with fuel transfer and vent
openings close to the leading edge that would require filling and relocating
farther aft if I install the additional spar. I was wondering if it would be
necessary to apply tank sealer to the aluminum tube? The aluminum does not
touch any carbon fiber (runs through the fiberglass ribs). I mentioned this
to another person in my EAA Chapter, and he was concerned about dissimilar
metal effect with the gasoline acting as an electrolyte. Since this is
beyond my level of knowledge, I need somebody on this list that can advise
me.
Thanks in advance,
IV-P
